Set Up the Accounts
Everything you do later lives inside these two accounts. Set them up in your own name, with your own billing — you should never rent your business from an agency or a freelancer.
Google Ads
- Create the account at ads.google.comUse your business Google account, not a personal Gmail you might lose. Skip the "Smart campaign" wizard — choose "Switch to Expert Mode" at the bottom. The wizard is designed to spend your money fast.
- Set billing: country, currency (RON/EUR), payment methodCurrency cannot be changed later without creating a new account. Add your card, set a manual or automatic payment — for small budgets, automatic is fine.
- Enter business information & verifyGoogle increasingly requires advertiser identity verification. Do it early — an unverified account can be paused mid-campaign.
- Turn OFF auto-apply recommendationsSettings → Recommendations → Auto-apply: disable everything. Google will otherwise "optimize" your campaign toward broader, more expensive traffic.
Meta (Facebook & Instagram)
- Create a Facebook Page for the practiceNot your personal profile. Name it what parents would search: e.g. "Meditații Matematică — [Name]". Add photo, description, contact.
- Set up Meta Business Suite (business.facebook.com)This is the container that owns the Page, the ad account, and later the pixel. One business portfolio, created with your business email.
- Create the ad account inside Business SuiteSet currency and time zone correctly — also unchangeable later. Add your payment method.
- Connect Instagram & WhatsAppLink the Instagram account and the WhatsApp Business number now — Step 2 depends on them, and verification can take a day.
The classic mistakes
Boosting posts from the Page button instead of using Ads Manager (less control, same money). Letting someone else create the ad account under their business portfolio. Accepting every setup suggestion the platforms make — both are optimized for their revenue, not yours.
Done when
- Both accounts exist under YOUR email and YOUR billing
- Google Ads is in Expert Mode, auto-apply off, identity verified
- Meta Business Suite owns the Page, ad account, Instagram and WhatsApp
- You can log into both without help
